Reading Spine texts are all wrapped up at the start of the year with an extract attached to the front. Children then explore these, discuss and vote for the book they would like to read first. Texts cover a range of authors, publication dates, genres and topics. Classes may also decide to read a text taught for writing outcomes as their Reading Spine.

This year, we launched our brand new and exciting reading reward scheme. Children across the school have the opportunity to build up and personalise their own avatar by reading either their banded book or a reading for pleasure book. Throughout the year, limited editions are launched that are available for short periods of time. In this time, children can earn items or skins based on certain themes such as Halloween, Anti Bullying Week, Roald Dahl Week etc.
