Welcome to Year 2!

This year Miss Lyne, Mrs Green, Miss Guy, Mrs Ore and Mrs Hall will be the staff leading our exciting learning journey.  We will be posting some examples of the fabulous work that the children produce here so please stay tuned. We know that we are going to have an amazing year. We will be immersing ourselves in a range of compelling texts and exploring a world of new vocabulary, unlocking language. You will be excited to become the best writers and mathematicians you can be.

Each half term or term, we will have a new focus in Science, Art/ Music, Geography/ History, RE, PSHE and D&T/ Computing. You'll be broadening your knowledge base and developing a wide variety of concepts and skills.

A reminder for P.E:

Class 5 - Wednesday afternoon

Class 6 - Wednesday afternoon

Please provide some warm clothing in addition to your child's PE kit as PE will sometimes take place outdoors.

Please remember that earrings must be removed for PE and children cannot participate if they are wearing them.

PE kits should be kept in lockers so that the children are always ready for their PE lessons.

Homework

Homework will be set and collected each Monday in your child's homework books. This will reflect the breadth of our curriculum and be a range of engaging activities throughout each half term.

Reading books will be sent home weekly. Please sign your child's reading record to show that they are reading at home. We have a challenge of completing reading at home three times a week. We are focusing on comprehension of the texts as well as fluency to ensure that our children are understanding what they are reading. There is a link below for parents, giving some examples of questions you may want to ask you child while they are reading a fiction text (story). 

TTRockstars will also be available to pupils. This is a focus on times tables and will be changed each week. In Year 2, we initially focus on 2, 5 and 10 times tables so these will be set first. A link to TTRockstars can be found below. 

Spelling books will be sent home every Monday. We ask that these are practised at home, ready for a spelling test each Monday. New spellings will be sent out after the spelling tests on a Monday morning.
