On 26th March, Police Constable Shendy Blakemore, Early Help Police Officer for Wednesbury and Tipton. returned to school to present a virtual reality program, about staying safe in the community and the dangers of knife crime.
This was an immersive experience using VR Headsets, whereby our children were able to make their own decisions on how the story unfolded whilst in a completely safe and familiar environment.
The program has been designed to empower young people to make decisions in a peer pressured environment without risk. At the end PC Blakemore facilitated a discussion around the choices that the pupils made, the outcomes and whether in the real world they may have chosen differently.
This was thoroughly well received by our children and sparked some real discussion. It was a great opportunity to continue to raise our children’s safety awareness, outside of school and the home. The program has now featured in most local schools across the Wednesbury Learning Community, Thanks again to PC Blakemore for her time and expertise.
