Autumn 1 Week 4

This week we have started a new theme: Our 5 Senses. We explored what our senses are by sharing the story of 'You Smell' by Mary Murphy.

We focussed on the sense of 'touch' this week.

We used our hands to explore some items hidden inside the 'feely' bag and to join in with actions and signs when singing this week's nursery rhymes: Round and Round the Garden and Tommy Thumb. Our hands were also useful in Snappy Maths, when comparing the weights of 2 objects as 'heavy' and 'light'.

Autumn 1 Week 3

This week we have continued our learning about 'All About Me' by thinking about our likes and dislikes. We shared the story 'What I Like' by Catherine Anholt. In our family groups, we each talked about which foods and which animals we like and dislike.

Our nursery rhyme this week was 'One Finger, One Thumb' and we moved different body parts when singing it.

In Snappy Maths, we explored patterns in different ways - matching animals to their print, matching halves of butterflies together and matching together pairs of socks.

Autumn 1 Week 2 - Our first full week

Wow! This has been our first full week in Nursery and what a busy week it has been! The children have settled in so well and have taken the big changes of adults, environment and activities in their stride. Well done, everyone!

This week we have been getting used to our new daily routine, practising our 'good sitting' during group activities and learning about our 4 classroom rules -

Have 'kind' hands and feet

Use a quiet voice when indoors

Walk when indoors

Help to tidy up

We have also shared our Reading Spine story called 'Hug' and joined in with singing this week's nursery rhyme 'If You're Happy and You Know It'. In 'Snappy Maths', we have practised the days of the week and compared 2 small amounts as we looked at differences between children in our family groups. During 'Choosing Time' (child-initiated learning time) we have explored the different areas of the indoor and outdoor environments.
