• Sandwell's Fizz Free February

  Sandwell is launching 'Fizz Free February'. They're asking children and young people to give up fizzy drinks for 28 days-making it easier for them to cut down for the rest of the year. • Change to morning routine commencing Monday 14th January

  Trickle Time

  In the absence of any adequate shelter on our playgrounds and potentially with the worst of the winter weather ahead, we have decided to trial something called ‘Trickle Time’. This means that as of tomorrow morning children will no longer need to line up on the playground and wait for their teacher to collect them. Instead, doors at various points around school (see below) will open at 8.45am and children will be able to enter school and make their way to their classroom. Each door will be manned by members of teaching support staff who will be wearing hi-vis vests; they will greet the children and as usual these members of staff will be your first port of call to give messages to, or request a meeting with your child’s classteacher. Please note that children attending Breakfast Club will be escorted to their classrooms as usual.

   

  Classteachers will remain in their classrooms to meet and greet your children; they will have set early morning tasks for children and will use the additional time to hear readers, ask children to correct/complete work etc.

   

  We ask that year groups use the following doors to enter school:

  Reception (Mrs Aggarwal and Mr Clarke)- Red Conservatory Doors (their usual entrance)

  Year 1 (Miss Smith and Miss Samra)- Mobile Classroom Doors (their usual entrance)

  Year 2 (Miss Kelsey and Miss J Robinson)- ICT Suite Door (usual exit point for Class 6)

  Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 (KS2)- the main entrance on the Oxford Street playground (their usual entrance)

  We do accept that siblings may prefer to enter via the same door and this is fine, however we do stipulate that our youngest children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 are handed over by an adult rather than a sibling.

   

  The school day begins at 8.50am and therefore the doors listed above will close on the second bell at 8.50am. Please do not knock on these or classroom doors after this time, instead please take your children to the school office. Any children arriving after 8.50am are officially ‘late before registers close’. We must try to avoid this at all costs as this is the busiest time of day for the school office and our children dislike being late and having to enter the classroom after everyone else.

   

  It is hoped that the trial will:

  • support parents in dropping off children in different key stages,
  • help to ease traffic and parking around the school site
  • prevent families from waiting around in the cold.

   

  Feedback will be taken at the next Parent Teacher Consultation Evenings set for the end of this half term (12th and 13th February). We really hope that, with your support, we can make this new initiative a success.

• Pupil Census Day - 17th January 2019

  On pupil census day lunch will be a Mary Poppins themed menu. Menu posters will be displayed around school. If you register your child for a meal on census day then the School could be entitled to additional funding called Pupil Premium for those whose families who have registered for free school meals (FSM) or who have been registered for FSM at any point during the past 6 years. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have automatically been entitled to a free school lunch.  However, registering for free meals could raise an extra £1,300 for the school. 

   

  These funds enable our school to take on additional staff and invest in additional equipment, resources and activities to the benefit all children. Being in receipt of the pupil premium fund will also entitle your child to support with the cost of school visits/trips/clubs.

   

  How can I find out if my child is entitled to the Pupil Premium funding?

  The process for applying is straightforward and confidential. You can check online using a ‘Free School Meals / Pupil Premium Service’ at www.fsm.lgfl.net. After entering essential details into the web site, the online application process links to the Department for Education system for checking eligibility and gives an immediate ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response, and will notify our school. Alternatively, you can speak to a member of the office staff, who will be able to assist you through this process. All enquires will be treated in confidence.
