  • Amazing Volunteer Pupils

    Thu 20 Dec 2018

A huge well done to Mia in Year 1 who, last weekend, insisted on giving up her own time to accompany family members to support the homeless in Birmingham. Mia and her family spent hours outside in the cold and rain delivering gifts of warm clothing, food and drink to those living on the streets. Thank you Mia, we could not be more proud.

In addition, Leah in Year 6 has also given up hours of her own time sorting, wrapping and packaging gifts in support of the local charity '4 Steps to a Smile'. This year the charity aims to support approximately 7000 underprivileged children and their families at Christmas. Fantastic, well done Leah!

Both Mia and Leah are super ambassadors for our school and are making a difference to the community.

  • YR Visit to Edgmond Hall

    Mon 10 Dec 2018

On Friday 7th December, Classes 1 and 2 set off in search for Santa! They made the trip from school to Edgmond Hall whereby they completed a number of outdoor activities.

During their day the children journeyed through different outdoor environments to recreate and act out the traditional Christmas Nativity story. The grounds of Edgmond were explored in search of baubles and presents with which to decorate the outdoor tree. The children also sourced and collected things from the grounds in order to make a Christmas card.

The icing on the cake was locating Santa in his Grotto...the magic of Christmas!

Overall, they had a magnificent day and the staff were very proud of them. Muddy boots all round!

  • Wednesbury Learning Community Trust (WLCT) English Quiz

    Fri 07 Dec 2018

On Thursday 6th December, three pupils from Year 6 were chosen to represent our school in the annual Wednesbury Learning Community Trust Quiz.

The quiz was held at, and hosted by, Old Park Primary (our thanks go to Mrs Boddington and the team for this). 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone' was the chosen text and theme for this year which made Mrs Fitzgerald very happy (who then volunteered to lead the team). There were several rounds including writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation in addition to reading trivia-our most successful round! The three children chose their own team name 'Mrs Bray's Army' similar to that of Dumbledore's Army in the book.

I am delighted to announce that we came second! Not only that, there was just one point separating us from the winning team! Our congratulations go to Old Park Primary, winners of the WLCT English Quiz for 2018.

A huge well done to Harpreet, Daniel and Shayma. You are superstars! JK Rowling would be proud!

  • Mesty Croft Academy Choir Performances

    Thu 06 Dec 2018

Our school choir have attended a number of events recently...

On Friday 16th November they performed at the Crankhall Lane Annual Christmas Lights Switch On.

They returned to the International German Market in Birmingham to perform on Saturday 24th November, which was truly magical.

And finally, on Monday 3rd December they performed pitchside in front of a huge crowd at The Hawthorns shortly before West Bromwich Albion played Brentford.

Huge thanks to all of the children who performed so brilliantly; to the staff who have given up their own time to accompany and support them and similarly parents who have ferried them from venue to venue and given their support along the way. Utterly fantastic, we are so proud!

  • Welcome to Mellors – Our new catering provider from January 2019

    Wed 05 Dec 2018

    School Meals are changing........

We are delighted to announce we have appointed Mellors Catering Services as the school’s new provider of school meals, beginning in January.

Mellors Catering Services is an established, family-run contract catering company that is part of the Mellors Food Group and has been trading for 23 years. They mainly operate in the North of England, within Primary and Secondary Schools and will be providing catering to schools across the Wednesbury Learning Community Trust.

As you have recently updated your child’s allergen and dietary preference information in school via the SIMS Parent App, you should not be able to order a product that contains anything that your child has an allergic reaction to, or preference against eating. However, please exercise caution and check the allergen information on products when ordering your meals. If you require further information, or reassurance please contact Mellors directly. If your child has recognised medical dietary needs, Mellors will be only too happy to discuss these with you.

As part of this change, we will soon be launching a new payment service for our school catering system. This will allow you to book and pay online for lunch for your child. This is called ParentPay.

ParentPay will allow you to book and pay for your child’s lunch online 24/7. Payments can be made by credit/debit card or cash payments at one of 33,000 PayPoint stores. Full payment histories and statements are also available on the site at all times, and you’ll be able to receive alerts when balances are low via email or text message.

Your child will soon be bringing home a letter with your account activation details. All you will need to do is follow the instructions in the letter to get started using ParentPay.

If you want to find out more about ParentPay visit https://www.parentpay.com/parents/

Sample lunchtime menus are changed every 3 weeks. The price of this meal is £2.25 a day. This must be paid for when the meal is booked. If your child is absent please logon to the system and cancel the meal. Your account will be credited for the cost of the meal, meaning you won’t pay for a meal your child doesn’t receive, and can use this credit in the future for another meal. The lunchtime menus will be available for you to order and pay for from the week commencing 17th December 2018. Orders for your child will need to be made in time for your child’s return on Tuesday 8th January 2019.

For children in Reception and Years 1 and 2, you will still need to order a meal using ParentPay, though you will not be charged for this order as you are entitled to a meal under the Government’s Universal Free School Meals scheme.

As our service with Dolce comes to an end on 31st December, we will no longer be using Live Kitchen. Please make any outstanding payments and delete your link to Live Kitchen from your devices when this is done at the end of this half term. If you are in credit, please contact Live Kitchen to arrange a reimbursement.
